The BVIs have been famous for their full moon parties since the 1970′ when Bomba built his shack on the beach at Carpoons Bay on the north side of Tortola.
It is literally a shack built out of flotsam and jetsam and artfully decorated with bras and panties . . . no kidding! So it is obviously not the swanky premises which makes this place so popular, so what is it? The Full Moon Parties!!!
These parties are extremely popular and hundreds of people flock here for these occasions. There are always great bands playing and you can dance the night away on the beach. If you are not a drinker, but would like a buzz anyway, you can always try the local Magic Mushroom Tea . . . yes it is legal here.
The party at Bomba’s Surfside Shack is definitely not for kids, so if you are bringing your family, I would highly recommend the full moon party in Trellis Bay. Typical West Indian BBQ on the beach and the Mucko Jumbies, walking on 6′ stilts create a festive atmosphere. When the darkness creeps in, big round metal sculptures filled with wood are set on fire and rounds off a perfect evening.
If you are chartering a bareboat, there is another reason to pick this spot. Trellis Bay is a popular anchorage, but if you want to get a mooring ball for the night of a full moon party you have to be there the day before. If you are on a crewed yacht, you can just lean back and let your capable captain take care of those details.
Have fun!!!
